“Speak the speech…”

In preparation for the start of their English Literature GCSE next year, Upper 4 have embarked on a practical exploration of Shakespeare’s stagecraft. This week, focusing on the opening moments of Hamlet, pupils experimented with a range of ways to create Shakespeare’s intended atmosphere before writing some highly impressive analytical responses connecting language and structure to performance.
