Life in the Sixth Form

The Sixth Form acts as a springboard for the future, leading to the third stage in your education.  It is the key to your future and your chosen career. It is a time where all that has gone before in school life comes together and should be a rewarding, stimulating and interesting two years.

At this stage it may be unclear what you will finally decide to do when you leave school but unless you have made a specific decision, such as a career in medicine or engineering, then think about keeping open as many doors as possible.  Choose subjects which you like and enjoy.  We will be able to give you guidance on all of this.  However, there is more to Sixth Form life than just academic work.  You will have the chance to develop interests and take responsibilities, making use of the wide range of opportunities in sport, drama, music and community services which are available at Westfield.  There are opportunities to become involved in our award winning Young Enterprise Group and also participate more fully in Round Square activities.  Combine all the privileges and responsibilities which are available at Westfield and you will find life really begins in the Sixth Form.

Pastoral Care

Each Sixth Form student has her own Tutor who she will meet on a regular basis.  Sixth Form tutors are available to counsel students and meet with parents.  Tutors will monitor the student's progress through all their academic and extra curricular activities and work closely with them throughout their time in the Sixth Form.  Sixth Form students also have many roles of responsibility through the House System.  They also enjoy their role of 'Big Sister' to a 'Little Sister' which enables them to form  a 'special' relationship with younger girls throughout the school. 

Roles of Responsibility

The Head Girl and Deputy Head Girl are appointed in the Summer Term of Lower Sixth, ready to take up their roles in the beginning of their Upper Sixth year.  There are a variety of roles for Lower Sixth students as House Captains, Deputy House Captains, Senior Prefects, Games, Music, Drama, Service and Environment Captains. These roles enable the girls to develop their organisational skills and build strong relationships with the younger girls in the school and with members of staff.
