- Balanced from the Beginning
At Westfield, we believe the early years of education should be as joyful as they are purposeful. From September 2025, our Junior School will welcome both boys and girls, extending our warm, ambitious and inclusive environment to more families while continuing to offer exceptional individual support and teaching. - A Distinctive Journey
This development builds on the success of our Junior Programme, and reflects a natural next step in offering the same rich educational experiences to siblings. We rewrote our Junior curriculum two years ago to focus on delivering learning at the point that our pupils are ready, teaching by stage not by age. By opening our doors to boys, we continue our mission to create confident, curious learners in a setting that reflects the collaborative nature of the wider world. - Small School, Big Horizons
Whether joining us in Nursery, Reception or later years, every child benefits from small classes, personalised attention and an environment where they are known and encouraged. Westfield Juniors provides a purposeful, positive start, without compromise. - A Fairer, More Flexible Choice for Families
This change allows us to support families more fully, particularly those with siblings, by offering the same high-quality start to both boys and girls, and easing transitions at a crucial stage in family life. - A Thoughtful Step Forward
This change isn’t about following trends, it’s about doing what’s right for children, parents and our school community. We remain proudly committed to our single-sex Senior education for girls, while offering a Junior experience that’s both inclusive and rooted in excellence.
FAQs
Why is Westfield moving to co-education in the Junior School?
Following requests from parents and careful reflection, we are extending our exceptional Junior School offer to boys as well as girls. This change reflects our inclusive values and enables us to better support families, particularly those with siblings, while continuing to deliver the academic quality and personal care Westfield is known for.
Will this change affect the Senior School?
Our Senior School will remain girls only, preserving the focused and empowering environment that helps our older pupils flourish.
Will boys and girls be taught differently?
No. All children at Westfield benefit from the same personalised teaching, high standards and breadth of opportunities. Our Junior School will remain inclusive, nurturing and academically ambitious for every pupil.
Is there sufficient provision for boys?
Our current educational provision is appropriate for boys and girls. We are fortunate enough to have a wonderful campus with excellent facilities that includes playing fields, forest school and a beach school. Academic and co-curricular activities are appropriate for both genders. Our current Junior Clubs, depending on age and the time of year, include Animated Film, Art, Chess, Choir, Cooking, Debating, Drama, Eco, Engineering & Enterprise, Events, Football, Gardening, Gymnastics, Hockey, Netball, Orchestra, Robotics, Rounders, Tennis, Textiles, Trampolining, UNESCO and Volleyball.
What happens when boys reach Year 7?
We will support each family in choosing the right next school for every child. Boys will leave Westfield Juniors confident, well-prepared and enriched by their experiences here.
What if I already have a child at Westfield?
This change enhances our offer for current families, allowing younger brothers to join their sisters and benefit from the same warm, high-quality education.
What uniform will my son wear?
Our uniform will be evolving over the coming months so your son will have suitable and appropriate uniform clothing to wear.
