Primary Engineer Winner!

Overall winner in the North East for the 3rd year running!

Well done to Olivia Murphy who was awarded ‘Overall Year 5 Winner’ by the judging panel of the Primary Leaders Award.

Olivia submitted her invention ‘Dentifier’

‘It’s a special toothbrush which has a built-in sensor; the sensor picks up lots of information about my teeth and sends it directly to my dentist. It means that if I have any problems with my teeth, I can get treatment a lot quicker.’

Karen Meeson (Year 5 Teacher and Junior House Science Coordinator)

‘The Primary Leaders Award is a competition that I get quite excited about each year, every girl submits an entry and it’s great to see all their inventions come to fruition, we have had a great deal of success achieving winning entries for the past three years in addition to numerous shortlisted entries and distinctions. This is a great achievement from the thousand entries. One of the best things about this competition is that you get to view the shortlisted entries and winners via a virtual tour, unfortunately this year’s awards ceremony at Sunderland University was unable to take place due to the pandemic. In addition, it’s great to have the support of companies like Siemens, Reece Foundation amongst many others, as a girl’s school we have always encouraged girls to take an interest in STEM at an early stage and I so proud of Olivia for her amazing achievement’
