Headmaster, Mr Neil Walker, was delighted to welcome to Westfield Lucy Winskell and Ed McNaught, Deputy Lieutenants for Tyne and Wear, at a tree planting ceremony in support of Her Majesty The Queen’s Green Canopy Jubilee initiative.

‘We were lucky to catch the sunshine between hail showers and it was great to see our Junior House captains help Lucy and Ed plant two lovely cherry trees’, said Mr Walker

Both Deputy Lieutenants have strong links to Westfield School; Lucy is an alumna and former Chair of the Board of Governors and Ed was a parent for 15 years.

Lucy has been appointed to be the next Lord Lieutenant of Tyne and Wear and in May is due to take over as Her Majesty’s representative in the County from Mrs Susan Winfield, OBE.

‘I am delighted to be back at Westfield today to meet some of the younger pupils and assist in the planting of these beautiful trees; I am very much looking forward to stepping into the role of Lord Lieutenant in May and I hope to fulfil as many opportunities as I can to see how the pupils and the trees are flourishing. ’ Ms Lucy Winskell, OBE, DL

‘It was a great pleasure to be at Westfield today and to be assisted by such bright and cheerful pupils.’

Commander Ed McNaught, RD, DL
