Physical Education

Practical Lessons

There are three members of the Physical Education and Games department whose teaching is spread across all year groups. Compulsory PE lessons are integrated within the academic timetable from Upper 3 (year 7) to the Upper Sixth (year 13) giving individual pupils, no matter their ability, access to specialist teaching. All Upper 3 (year 7) to Upper 4 (year 9) pupils have three single and two triple PE lessons per fortnight, all Lower and Upper 5 (years 10 and 11) pupils have three single and two double lessons per fortnight. The Sixth Form have a double games lesson each week. Within PE lessons a wide and balanced range of activities is offered.

The following activities are offered to Key Stage 3 and 4 pupils:

  • Athletics

Academic Lessons

We currently follow the OCR course for GCSE and A Level which help bring the subject to life and inspire learners to achieve more. Both the GCSE course and the A Level course have practical, theoretical and coursework components. Further information can be obtained at www.ocr.org.uk/subjects/pe-sport-leisure/

Extra Curricular PE at Westfield

The PE Department aims to encourage all pupils to take part in extra sporting activities both on a competitive and recreational basis. All activities are offered to help pupils develop and extend their ability and talents. Clubs take place before school and during lunchtimes with the majority of fixtures taking place at the end of the school day.

A variety of school teams run throughout the year and are entered into all local and regional inter-school competitions. We also hold inter-house competitions including an annual sports day which all girls participate in.

We have close links to many regional clubs across multiple sports allowing the girls to access higher level coaching.
