Costa Rica calls!
A slice of South Africa beckons!
'Waves of Change' in Florida!
Junior House enjoy the French experience!
Senior House Delegates visited Costa Rica to join an Eco Project on a theme of sustainable living, co-operative community and ecology. The girls worked directly with the Durika Community exploring the concepts of sustainable living at an eco-village where people are learning to live in harmony with the planet. They also experienced the breath taking beauty of Costa Rica's Central Valley, mountain cloud forest and Pacific coast rainforest and beach. It was a truly memorable and life changing experience for the girls.
Delegates on the tour of South Africa enjoyed a fascinating tour organised by St Cyprian's School in Cape Town. The girls took part in environmental work in the Cape and community projects in Khayelisha as well as adventure and leadership on the Orange River in the Richtersveld National Park. They also visited Robben Island, Table Mountain and a game drive as well as surfing at the famous Muizenberg beach! An amazing experience for them all.
This year's International Round Square Conference is being held at St Andrew's School, Boca Raton in Florida in October. Delegates from Lower Five, Upper Five and the Lower Sixth will be attending. They will be exploring the theme of 'Waves of Change'. As a pre conference tour, the girls will have the opportunity to visit New York exploring Chinatown, Little Italy and many of the wonderful art galleries and museums that New York has to offer, as well as taking in the whole 'Big Apple' experience. They will then head off to Miami for the International Round Square Conference where they will meet delegates from Round Square schools across the world. A fantastic experience for all our delegates.
As part of the British Council Comenius Project, entitled ‘Our World from my Window’, which runs from October 2013 to July 2014, nine Lower Three girls and two teachers traveled to France for a week. The Westfield delegation and children from their partner school in Germany, Armin-Maiwald Schule in Monheim-am-Rhein, stayed in the homes of host families in Maisons-Lafitte, a town south of Paris, and the home of L’Ermitage Ecole International de France, a fellow Round Square School. The visit included work in the classroom of the bilingual school as well as visits out with the families and en masse to the local environment and sightseeing in Paris. In the coming year, delegates from both schools will visit Westfield Junior House.
