Societies and ClubsEveryone is expected to play a full and active part in a busy programme of extra-curricular activities ranging from trampolining, 'Zumba', Hip Hop and fencing to Amnesty International, Passport for Life and Environmental groups.
There are a variety of lunch time clubs to choose from - Puzzles and Problem Solving, Senior and Junior Reading Groups, 'Something to Say' Club, Bel Canto, Jazz Band, Chemistry Club, Write Now Club, Art club, Textiles Club and Games Club, as well as a variety of musical and sporting clubs. We have also recently launched CC4G which has a big weekly attendance. We aim to develop the girls environmental awareness, not only in their thinking but also in a practical sense.
The music department at Westfield School offers many offers many extra-curricular activities, including Junior Choir, Senior Choir, Chamber Choir, Junior Orchestra, Senior Orchestra and Jazz band. These groups perform at our soirees, held twice-yearly, as well as performing at the Open Day, Harvest Service and Christmas Carol Service.
A team of visiting peripatetic teachers offer lessons in Piano, Singing, Flute, Clarinet, Guitar, Violin and Harp and more than 60 instrumental lessons are taught each week. Many pupils have achieved high successes in ABRSM music examinatons.
Westfield pupils participate actively in ensembles out of school, including Young Sinfornia, Quay Voices and Folkestra, based at The Sage, Gateshead. Other external groups include The Northumbrian Ranters (folk group) and North Tyneside Steel Band.
We also run a variety of ‘drop-in’ clubs, such as, The Maths Hospital, Chemistry Club, Science Surgery, Geography Gym, History Hotline, ICT Infirmary and Careers Clinic. The Foreign Film Club is held twice a term.
