Key Stage 4 Science
At Key Stage 4 girls continue to study all three sciences, with the option of working towards either GCSE Science (Double Award) or three separate GCSEs in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
Throughout Key Stage 4 we encourage pupils to:
- develop their interest in, and enthusiasm for, science
- develop a critical approach to scientific evidence and methods
- acquire and apply skills, knowledge and understanding of how science works and its essential role in society
- acquire scientific skills, knowledge and understanding necessary for progression to further learning
Time allocation at Key Stage 4 is 8 periods per week for Science (Double Award) and 4 periods a week for each of the three separate sciences.
AQA GCSE specifications are followed. Assessment is via 1 hour written module papers (6 for Double Award, 9 for separate sciences) and a Centre Assessed Practical Investigation Unit.
Our GCSE Science results are consistently excellent, with a high proportion of girls gaining A* and A grades and a significant number achieving maximum UMS module scores of 100/100.
