Junior International Outlook

Westfield is an elected member of Round Square, a world-wide association of schools which share a commitment beyond academic excellence, to personal development, responsibility and international understanding through service, challenge and adventure.

There are opportunities for Junior House girls to participate in Junior and Young Round Square conferences aimed specifically at their own age groups and usually held in the UK or Europe. Junior House girls also have the opportunity to participate at Children's International Summer Villages which promote peace education and cross-cultural friendships, very much part of the Round Square ethos.

The Comenius Project

A Comenius project took place during 2007-2009 in which Year 6 girls visited Germany and Turkey.

Since the start of the 2012-13 academic year, Westfield School Junior House has been engaged in a multilateral COMENIUS partnership.  This involves the whole school community in a project entitled “Our World From My Window”, along with other children aged 3 to 11 years in our partner schools in Germany and France.  This project is financed by the European Commission through the British Council.
The aim of the project is for our pupils to discover a knowledge of their own locality, culture and tradition and those of the wider world and to share their discoveries and their creativity with the pupils of the partner schools.  The children will study the local environment, history, traditional festivals, stories, songs and local people and their work will be cross-curricular, involving geography, history, English, art, music, dance and environmental studies.
Our German partner school is Armin-Maiwald-Schule, situated in Monheim-am-Rhein.  This school is the product of a merger of two schools, one of which, Geschwister Scholl Schule, was one of our partners in our 2007 – 2009 Comenius Project, “Our Beautiful and Fragile World”.

The French school, Ermitage International Ecole de France, a fellow Round Square school, is our second partner.  Ermitage is situated in Maisons-Laffitte, a small, historic town not far from Paris.  Opened in 1941, it has grown from a small French school into a cosmopolitan school in which many nationalities learn together.  Like Westfield, Ermitage takes part in many social service projects throughout the world.
